WATERWORTH AND BURNS KEEP BLUES TITLE CHALLENGE ON TRACK

Andrew Waterworth and Aaron Burns grabbed the goals as Linfield produced another winning performance to defeat the Bannsiders at Windsor Park.

Ian Parkhill might have opened the scoring for Coleraine as early as the second minute when he found himself clear only for 'keeper Ross Glendinning to pull off a fantastic save.

The Blues moved in front after just eight minutes when a Burns pass was touched on by Ivan Sproule for Waterworth to force over the line.

Parkhill came close with a header with Glendinning again denying him while, not long after, a Coleraine 'goal' was disallowed following a foul on the Linfield 'keeper.

Linfield doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark when Burns finished at the near post after Waterworth had taken the ball into the left side of the area.

Stephen Lowry almost added a third early in the second half with a flicked header from Ross Clarke's corner only for the ball to drift just wide while, moments later, Jamie Richards saw an effort go narrowly over.

Coleraine reduced the deficit with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining. Glendinning had blocked a Gary Browne effort but as the ball fell loose Neill McCafferty to chip the ball into the unprotected net.
