RELEGATION NOW A REALITY FOR 'STUTE

Institute have been relegated back to Championship football following this home defeat to Ballymena United.

David Cushley might have fired United into the lead as early as the second minute only to fire narrowly over from a free-kick.

At the other end Robbie Hume fired wide from a good position before play switched again for Johnny Taylor saw a 20th minute effort saved by Corey Wilson.

The deadlock was broken in Ballymena's favour on 41 minutes when Ally Teggart converted from the spot following a push on Allan Jenkins.

But, on the stroke of half-time, Stephen Curry levelled for 'Stute with a glancing header from Matty Young's cross.

United moved back in front five minutes into the second half when a Darren Boyce ball was looked to have been touched home by Jenkins although 'Stute's Mark Forker inadvertently made the final contact.

Institute, fighting for survival, might have levelled a short time later when Dean Curry got on the end of Michael McCrudden free-kick only to head the ball against the post.

Substitute Matthew Shevlin could have extended United's advantage on 78 minutes when he found himself through on goal but 'keeper Wilson proved equal to the challenge.
