McGINTY AND BEVERLAND ON TARGET AS BANNSIDERS SINK REDS

Coleraine deservedly collected a maximum return from this visit of defending league champions Cliftonville to The Showgrounds.

The Bannsiders enjoyed the better chances in the opening half-an-hour or so with Darren McCauley coming closest on 25 minutes with a first time shot from an Ian Parkhill left-sided cross which seemed destined for the top corner only to be denied by a super Conor Devlin save.

McCauley was involved in the opening goal with a couple of minutes of the first half remaining when his backheel on the edge of the area found Shane McGinty whose left-foot effort beat Devlin in off an upright.

Stung by this, Cliftonville started the second half in a much more determined fashion with Jaimie McGovern seeing an early header cleared off the line by Adam Mullan while, on the hour, Joe Gormley was denied by a superb two-handed Michael Doherty save.

Coleraine almost doubled their lead on 66 minutes when Neill McCafferty rattled the crossbar ..... but, within a minute, it was 2-0 when McCafferty delivered a corner for Howard Beverland to meet with a diving header past Devlin.
