McALORUM WINNER SECURES POINTS FOR GLENTORAN
27th Sep 2014
Glentoran were denied by the woodwork on three occasions before grabbing the winner to earn the points from Dungannon's visit to The Oval.
Curtis Allen was involved in the the majority of chances created in a scoreless first half.
On five minutes he came close after he turned a Stephen McAlorum pass into the side-netting.
He followed this a short time later with an effort fired over over the crossbar after David Howland and David Scullion combined to craft the opening.
Then, on 36 minutes, he came closer still when Andy Coleman tipped his driven attempt onto the underside of the bar.
The Swifts might have opened the scoring after an hour when Jamie Glackin lifted the ball over Elliott Morris only for David McCullough to head off the line before Grant Hutchinson sliced the follow-up over the bar.
But Glentoran always looked the more likely to score and almost managed it on 73 minutes when Willie Garrett struck the crossbar before, frustratingly for Eddie Patterson's side, Johnny Addis did exactly the same thing from a Howland corner three minutes after that.
However, the Glens eventually got the goal they deserved with ten minutes remaining when McAlorum blasted home the winner from outside the area.
