MATCH PREVIEW - BALLYMENA UNITED V GLENTORAN
9th Feb 2015
BALLYMENA United welcome Glentoran to the Showgrounds on Tuesday (745pm) hoping to record their first win in seven games against the East Belfast side.
Glenn Ferguson’s side have shown that they are capable of beating anyone on their day and have scored an impressive 18 goals in their last six games in all competitions. However while they have proved they are a real threat going forward, it is 10 games since they last kept a clean sheet in the Danske Bank Premiership and this is something that Eddie Patterson will want his side to exploit once more.
Glentoran have found the net 13 times in their last four games against the Sky Blues, scoring four unanswered 2nd half goals at the Oval in November but were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man United in September at the Showgrounds.
Both sides possess two of the most entertaining players that the Premiership has to offer in David Cushley and Jordan Stewart, and don’t be surprised if a moment of magic from either of these midfielders wins the points for their side.
Cushley is in tremendous form scoring five goals in his last three games in all competitions including an unstoppable free kick at Cliftonville on Saturday that would grace any league in the world. After recovering from a knee injury earlier this season, he is getting fitter and more dangerous with each passing game and this can only be positive for Ballymena United but it’s not good news for those sides facing him.
Glentoran, however have their own match-winner in Jordan Stewart who has an excellent record against Ballymena Utd having scored five in his last four games against them. For a midfielder, Stewart has a fantastic record this season having netted 12 times in his 25 appearances which for all you mathematicians out there is almost a goal every two games….and at just 19 years old he is sure to only get better.
