GLENAVON TOO STRONG FOR MALLARDS AT FERNEY PARK

Mark Patton opened the scoring for Glenavon after 14 minutes after he brought the ball forward and, as the home defence stood back, he fired low into the bottom corner.

It was 2-0 just before half-an-hour had elapsed when Ciaran Martyn tapped home from close range after a Kevin Braniff effort had been pushed out.

The Mallards might have pulled a goal back just before the break after James McKenna struck the crossbar with a long range effort and in the scramble that followed for the rebound referee Ian McNabb spotted an infringement and duly awarded a penalty which, unfortunately for Whitey Anderson's side, Jason McCartney could only turn against a post.

However, Ballinamallard did reduce the deficit three minutes after the break courtesy of a Liam Martin 20-yard finish which Alan Blayney looked to have saved before fumbling it over the line.

Then, around the hour mark, David Kee almost levelled with a well struck volley just wide of the top corner.

But the destination of the points was put beyond any doubt with five minutes remaining when Braniff converted from the spot after Liam McMenamin was adjudged to have upended Eoin Bradley.
