GLENAVON MAINTAIN ADVANTAGE OVER BANNSIDERS

Glenavon remain six points clear of Coleraine in the race for the top six following this draw at The Showgrounds.

Kevin Braniff fired the Lurgan Blues into an early lead when, on seven minutes, his right-foot free-kick from outside the area went up and over the wall into Michael Doherty's net.

But rather than push on from this Glenavon failed to create much in front of goal and, indeed, it was the Bannsiders who finished the first half on top forcing Winkie Murphy into a goalline clearance whilst Joe McNeill saw an effort flirt with the crossbar.

Then, in stoppage time, Glenavon 'keeper James McGrath brought down Ian Parkhill in the area with Neill McCafferty stepping up to fire the subsequent spot-kick into the right side of the goal.

Coleraine carried this form into the second half with Matthew Snoddy being denied on more than one occasion while McNeill and Bradley Lyons also posed a threat at times.

Glenavon's best effort came via substitute Declan O'Brien with audacious 30-yard lob only for the ball to drop onto the roof of the net.
