CLEAN SHEET FOR TEN-MAN PORTS AT FERNEY PARK

Portadown halted their recent run of heavy defeats with this scoreless draw with Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

The first half really failed to ignite throughout with the Ports enjoying the best of what little was created.

Indeed, it took until the half-hour mark for the first proper effort of note when Shea Conaty did well on the edge of the box for Gary Twigg to test Feargal Murphy with a close range snapshot.

Then, eight minutes later, Twigg turned provider to play in Peter McMahon but his effort sailed over the bar.

Twigg almost broke the deadlock in Portadown's favour just before the hour only to hit the bar from a McMahon cross before Conaty steered his attempted rebound wide of the target.

The Mallards did have the ball in the net soon after when Anthony Elding turned home Colm McLaughlin's shot but this was ruled out offside.

And not long after that Mark Stafford turned a header against the bar from David Kee's free-kick.

Portadown ended the game with ten men following Mark McAllister's dismissal for a second bookable offence.
