Martin Donnelly might have opened the scoring early in proceedings for Cliftonville only to send a free-kick just past the post.

Jay Donnelly then weighed in with a chance with flashed the wrong side of an upright.

Coleraine came into the game more after this with Darren McCauley seeing a free-kick end up not too far from the target while Matthew Snoddy came close after half-an-hour with a 20-yard curling effort.

Neil McCafferty crafted the first effort of the second half with a 53rd minute attempt from inside the box but this ended up high and wide.

Unfortunately the second period was fairly bereft of scoring opportunities at both ends although the Bannsiders might have grabbed victory with ten minutes remaining when Shane McGinty teed Ian Parkhill up only for his effort to be saved by a stretching Peter Cherrie.
