BLUES INJECT NEW LIFE INTO TITLE CHALLENGE

Linfield breathed life back into their title challenge with this defeat of Glentoran at The Oval.

Coupled with a defeat for Crusaders at Portadown the Blues are now six points adrift with four games left to play but, crucially, one of those is against Stephen Baxter's side.

Aaron Burns almost edged Linfield in front early in the game with a 7th minute header against the woodwork from Stephen Lowry's corner.

Andrew Waterworth might have opened the scoring for the Blues after a quarter-of-an-hour after he dispossessed William Garrett but, as he bore down on goal, 'keeper Elliott Morris came out on top.

But Glentoran came into the game around the half-hour mark when David Scullion lifted the ball just over the bar before, a minute later, Fra McCaffrey opened the scoring with a right-foot finish past Johnny Tuffey after Steven Gordon had flicked the ball into his path.

Linfield levelled on 58 minutes, however, when Marcus Kane upended Glenn Belezika inside the box with Burns stepping up to convert.

Then, with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, Mark Haughey headed the Blues in front after rising highest to meet a Matthew Clarke corner from the right.
