BALLYMENA REDISCOVER WINNING TOUCH AT FERNEY PARK

Ballymena United bounced back from last week's Irish Cup disappointment to defeat Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

The visitors needed just four minutes to move in front after the ball dropped for Mark Surgenor some 25 yards from goal before being dispatched into the net in off the crossbar.

David Cushley had two good efforts for Ballymena as the half progressed but, on 38 minutes, the Mallards thought they have levelled through David Kee only for his 'goal' to be ruled out offside.

However, Whitey Anderson's side did find the equaliser a three minutes after that when Liam Martin met a Jason McCartney delivery to turn in the box and fire low into the corner.

Johnny Lafferty came close for the Mallards at the near post around the hour mark but the Sky Blues regained the advantage on 70 minutes thanks to a 25-yard Neal Gawley effort which gave 'keeper Stefan McCusker no chance.

Substitute Matthew Tipton completed the scoring two minutes into added time with a composed chip over McCusker from the edge of the area.
